Apple iPad vs Amazon Kindle Fire HDX

Apple-iPad-vs-Amazon-Kindle-Fire-HDX
Whether you like it or not, the holiday season is quickly approaching. This year, smartphones and netbooks aren’t going to cut it as they have previously. This year, the thing to have are tablets. Not iPads mind you, but tablets. Tablets galore. It seems that every manufacturer under the sun has some sort of tablet on the market at this point, but as we learned before with smarthpones, not all are created equal.
The new tablet to the market is Amazon’s Kindle Fire HDX. The HDX is the moniker Amazon has assigned to their newest and most high powered tablets to date. Back in September, we made an announcement about the HDX’s debut, but we really didn’t give you much to compare it to. Now that we’re getting closer to decision making time, we figured it was a good time to provide you with an easy to read spec sheet. Today we’ll be comparing Amazon’s HDX’s to Apple’s, market dominating, iPads to see who comes out on top.

Comparing the small guys here we find that while the Kindle Fire HDX has a smaller screen in comparrison to the iPad mini, it makes some very decent advancements over the competition when it comes to weight, processor power and RAM. I’ve got to say, this is impressive and unexpected for me. I am disappointed to see that the HDX doesn’t come with a rear camera, who thought of that? Maybe it was a price point decision to keep the HDX starting at only about $30 cheaper than the iPad mini. Between the two here, I’d probably go for the Kindle Fire HDX simply for the RAM and pixel density.

Here with the big boy models we see some sharp similarities when it comes to size, but some dramatic differences when it comes to weight. How The Kindle comes in at almost 10 oz lighter befuddles and intrigues me. Once again, the processor and RAM on the HDX leave the iPad lagging behind. Storage options are the same, so they’re tied there. The iPad does however, jump back into the lead when it comes to the cameras again. Yes, the HDX 8.9 does in fact come with a second camera this time, but it’s stuck in 720p which excites no one. The nearly $100 price difference does make you wonder what exactly you’re paying for if you buy the Apple device, but that’s been debatable for decades. If you’re shopping for the best deal concerning hardware and price, you can’t beat the Kindle Fire HDX right now, but if the person you plan to purchase for stated they wanted the iPad, neither HDX is going to truly satisfy them.
